Does Bungie Really Care About What Their Fans Think Anymore?

โดย : Lashawn เมื่อวันที่ : พุธ ที่ 2 เดือน กันยายน พ.ศ.2569

The action continues after a short cutscene (yes, there are cutscenes in missions now). We_ve boarded the Cabal capital ship and need to take down the shields. The level ended in the shield generator room where we were introduced to Destiny 2_s main antagonist, Ghaul. Large and menacing, Bungie claims that he_s a more complex villain than, say, Oryx, but he didn_t come across that way in the demo. Hopefully, we_ll see another side of him in the main game.

The one thing that continually will linger on the mind while playing is the exact sentiment above. Why was Curse of Osiris not included in the base game? Curse of Osiris is small, adding only one new destination, a new raid space next week and some other minor things, which I_m sure you can guess. It_s grating, because for such a slice of content, it could have easily made its way into the base game _ obviously I_m not a developer nor do I pretend to know the ins-outs of development _ that said, this DLC really is small enough that if booting up Destiny 2 Story guide 2 for an outside party, they might think it_s part of the base game.

Including all content from Curse of Osiris in the base game might have helped ease some of the end-game pains that the launch brought with it. It_s not too much more to do, but it might have smoothed over a few wrinkles by including that extra content. It would also have made the loot pool larger; maybe Guardians wouldn_t be as frustrated at the limited item sets, lackluster exotics and other cosmetics. Giving more isn_t always the best idea, but in this case, it could have been.

Love it or hate it, Destiny is addicting. It has some of the best first person shooting mechanics available, and while the campaign structure is limited, its drive for loot is exciting. Unfortunately, if players ignore the Raids all together they will be left with an unfortunate experience that_s marred by a virtually non-existent plot. Regardless, Destiny is a fun game to play with friends, having you dig through hours of dungeons and lengthy strikes. There_s a lot for Bungie to do (an actual story would be nice, more varied locations for missions and less repetitive mission tasks), but they have established something to build off of that will hopefully be expanded upon in future iterations.

Destiny 2 looks substantially better than the original game. Models and textures are more detailed, the worlds are bigger and more varied and the cinematics are top notch CG. It_s shaping up to be a stunning package on PS4 and PC. While the PS4 build we played was running on PS4 Pro, it wasn_t easy to discern any upgrades due to the size of the screen we played on. PC players, on the other hand, are in for a real treat. On PC, we did notice that pop-in was far less severe and it was nice finally getting to play Destiny at 60 frames-per-second. Unfortunately, the console version still runs at 30 frames-per-second.

The other side of the loot pool is the now titled "Illuminated Engrams" (previously Bright Engrams) which drop all sorts of cosmetic goodies and sometimes an exotic ship, sparrow or Ghost. Bungie is sticking to their guns with how these engrams function _ aside from the debacle of XP gain _ a minor complaint comes against it. With so many new cosmetics, mainly shaders, why can_t these items be locked like armor or weapons? Why can_t they be deleted in mass? Having to systemically break-down shaders one by one is tedious and a waste of time. No one wants to sit around and delete 65 bland shaders, "wooo, look how much fun I_m having."

After that first mission, though, players are immediately ejected to space, where a limited number of things to do sits in a classic Destiny menu. Like, what? I can_t even land on a planet and just wander around? With nowhere else to go, it_s either hop in the Strike or hop in the Crucible.

The battlefield then led to the dig site, which shows just how cinematic Bungie intends all missions to be. Giant drills are circling around, and getting smacked by one of them automatically kills a Guardian. You have to navigate across a Cliffside while trying not to get hit by them, and dealing with the Cabal. With so many moving parts, The Inverted Spire is easily more cinematic than anything in the vanilla version of Destiny.

Of course, that_s not all. All the original subclasses return, kind of. You can play as a Nightstalker or Gunslinger Hunter, a Voidwalker or Stormcaller Warlock, or a Striker or Hammer of Sol Titan. A few of the subclasses have been tweaked to be more effective in Destiny 2. For example, a Striker Titan_s Super now allows players to run about and perform multiple ground-pounds, making it a far more useful class. Abilities from the Defender, Sunginsger and Bladedancer subclasses have been absorbed into he new subclasses.

Hardcore Gamer went hands-on with the PS4 and PC versions of the upcoming game and if what we played is anything to go by, Bungie may have a real winner. While Destiny 2 may not change the minds of those opposed to loot shooter or MMO-lite mechanics, it will make those who were disappointed by the original game very happy. Destiny 2 is bigger, better structured and packs a more powerful punch.
